Sri Lanka is an island in the Indian Ocean, just south of the Indian peninsula from which it is separated by the Palk Strait by a 22 km strip of water at its narrowest point.

Sri Lanka lies between 5,50° and 9,50° North and 79,42° and 81,52° East.

Major Natural Features

Mahaweli Ganga, Aruvi Aru, Kala Oya , Kelani Ganga,Yan Oya, Deduru Oya, Walawe Ganga, Maduru Oya, Maha Oya, Kalu Ganga are some of the major rivers in Sri Lanka.

Major Tourist Spots

Outside of Colombo, Sri Lanka offers a host of attractions to the tourist including many splendid beaches and scenic sites and the historic cities of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya. Other places of interest include Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Ratnapura. Nature lovers can visit the botanical gardens, national parks and bird sanctuaries.
